Anyone have any inside info or ideas about the design of the ReBoot icon? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Maybe it was just a simple design they conjured up all those years ago, and now that Reboot is such a hit phenomenon, I'm looking for some deep, meaningful reasoning behind the icon's design. Heh. At any rate, I like it. I wish I had a bumper sticker or some other kind of merchandise to show off my loyalty. Of course, I'd want it in Guardian-yellow :)

True that it is explained in "Talent Night" but by the looks of it... it also could have come out of a meeting doodle or something. ^^

It's probably not true but it's just a thought.

Well, like everyone else already stated, it's made of a circle {sphere}, square {cube} and a triangle {cone in the TN episode, though I suppose it can be any-sided pyramid as well}... but I'm not sure whether that explains just what made the creators of Reboot use exactly that design. I mean, was it just a "hey, that idea's pretty cool" thing, or was there a deeper meaning to it?

Mysteries, mysteries....

Nope.  Sometimes the simple solution is the right one!

Ian wanted a logo made from the three basic 3D primitives - circle, square, triangle / sphere, cube, cone - and Brendan doodled the Reboot logo. Ta-daaa!  Done.

Who she is physcially patterned after I have no idea, certainly the chap who played Dixon, was a gentleman in his 70's, so is unlikely to be much of a physical basis! :)

Oh - I thought I answered that one already.  Apparently not.

Despite her rough and ready manner, Miss Dixon is quite Congenial.  She is always ready for action, and can move at quite a Speed if necessary.  As a guardian, she knows that sometimes to get the job done you might need to take extreme action, and is always up for some Demolition.  Viruses rarely escape her Net, and after a hard minute on the job she is more than ready to let her hair down, relax, and get her Ya-Ya's out...

Truth of the matter is episode 4.08 became a 'real, serious, bonafide' cliffhanger at the very last minute, when we found out it was going to be the last (but by the User not the last ever please thankyou) episode of season 4.  We were planning a milder cliffhanger into the third set of four, but it was not to be, so we went for it.

And can I just say, it was in no way an attempt to 'make the fans jump through hoops'.  We don't do that.  That comment just pissed me off.

If you're even in the negotiating stage of things, please let us know.  I can understand if maybe you aren't supposed to tell us anything, but maybe you could just, you know, drop a hint?  Like "stay tuned, all hope isn't lost" or something.  Even just a smiley in response to this post, if you don't want to say too much.

Sorry about the delayed response, but I'm afraid there is still no news yet. These wheels grind ever slow, and we must all be patient.  Rest assured, if we even get a sniff of news I will be back here to hint at you all that there is hope. Or rather, _more_ hope.  (For "While there's life there's hope, as my old Gaffer used to say...")

Oh, another question I had: A long, long while ago, you posted this:

"Greetings all - I need your opinions!

My question is: If you had to choose just TWO episodes of Reboot, one
from Season I and one from Season III, which best illustrated the
advancements we've made in animation while at the same time still being
good respresentative Reboot shows, which two shows would you choose?"

Later, you posted this:

"It's really quite simple. Let me explain:  Someone (an 'organisation' who must remain anon at the moment) have asked us to send them two episodes of Reboot which illustrate the technological and (more importantly in this specific case) the animation advancements we have made in the production of Reboot.

"They asked for an early show, which kinda means Season I, I'm sure you'll concede, and a show from the third Season. (for obvious reasons!)  Now, *why* they want this must also remain a secret at this time, but trust me - it's really cool and I will let you all know as soon as I can."

That was way back in May, and you still haven't updated us yet. O_o  Bad enough I should be on pins and needles about the future of ReBoot, at least you could gratify my curiosity about this one, you mean bastard. ;)

It was - of I remember correctly - to do with the Smithsonian thing.  But Mairi was handling it, and I have no clue what became of it all.  I'll see if I can find out...

Hey... wait a nano... did you just call me a mean bastard???

Ah yes.  So I did.

What I was going to tell you was that one of the scenes we cut for time from episode 4.03 was a scene between Hex and Scuzzy in Hex's Lair.  We didn't want to cut it, obviously, but we had no choice - it was a nice, funny little character scene AND it showed us that Skuzzy was still around.  However, it was not vital to the plot, and time was tight, so it was cut.  :-(

Unfortunately it was the only scene in all of Season IV which had Skuzzy in it.  (That's what I didn't want to say before - it would have given away the fact that Skuzzy wasn't in episodes 4.05 to 4.08)

So - Skuzzy is still in Mainframe. We just didn't get to see him.  Maybe he's hanging with the pirates - or maybe he IS with Mrs Slocum!  (LOL)

I just bought an AndrAIa figure yesterday and I was staring... err... looking.... at the back when I noticed that there was no Mouse figure. Mouse is your favourite character isn't she? You are one of the heads at MFE, right? If I had that much power and I created a show, one of my first things I'd do concerning action figures of the show would be to
make one of my favourites.

Why isn't there a Mouse figure? I'd buy one.

What's up with that? :D

Gavin isn't the one you should be asking. That honor goes to Irwin Toy.
You should call them or email them that you would like to see more
characters from Reboot made.

Marv

From Al's Waiter:

But MFE designates which toys are made though.  I'm just curious. ^_^

From Gavin Blaire:

Ha!  We wish...

We can ask for what we'd like to see, but then the toy company advise us what the buyers will buy - and that is the word of god on this one.  If Toys R Us say 'female action figures don't sell and we won't buy them' all the other
buyers follow suit.  And the toy company would be insane to make a toy the buyers won't buy!

You think I don't want a Mouse 9"?  We were lucky to get 1 in 6 figs to be female...

PS - Mouse is in one of the later runs of toys, and I'm not 100% sure on her fate myself... it seems to depend who you ask!

Me again.

I got clearance about what I can and can't say!

In very simple terms, it goes like this:

1) Cartoon Network gave the Toy Stores the impression that they were going to air ReBoot daily.

2) The Toy Stores said "Great!  Irwin - send us lots of toys!"

3) Irwin and Mainframe got together and planned some killer toys.

4) For whatever reason, Cartoon Network changed their minds and decided they weren't going to air ReBoot daily after all.

5) They Toy Stores said "Oh.  We won't be needing all those toys after all.  (Less airings means less viewers means less toys are bought.)

SOOOOOOO the upshot of all this is... direct your letters to not only the Toys Stores (particularly Toys R Us and Wal Mart) but ALSO to Cartoon Network.  Tell them you want ReBoot in heavy rotation.

That's the ONLY real way to get more toys on the shelves!

Hi y'all

So:  The first four shows are now mixed and in the can.  They look amazing and sound incredible, and are so tightly packed with stuff even I need to watch them more than once to take it all in!  It was an effort getting the complex scripts into 21 minutes, (yeah, yeah, partly my bad), but I think our awesome production teams have pulled it off!

This week has seen us putting together the various versions of the title sequences for 'movie 1'. (Different broadcasters have different requirements).  Some are 'Daemon heavy', some are 'Daemon lite', some are 30 seconds, some 60 seconds, some with voiceover, some without... it's all rather confusing really!  There's also a Season III recap sequence for some versions of the first episode.  I think what I'll do when the shows have aired is have the different sequences put on the Website so you can all get a chance to see them all.

Yesterday we had the final record session for 'movie 2', but being a complete stinker I can't tell you who it was with.  ;-)

Next wednesday we mix the 5th episode, the first part of the second 'movie', and I gotta tell ya, IMHO it is one of the best episodes of Reboot ever... and I cannot wait until you all see it!

So - it's looking good, and it's coming fast!

Have a great weekend and Stay Frosty!

The mystery is revealed, and ReBoot fans are in for a treat.

ReBoot: Daemon Rising, season four of popular computer-animated series, premieres on Friday, October 19 at 5 PM EST/PST According to Cartoon Network, instead of two separate movies, Daemon Rising is now a 10 part mini-series Toonami miniseries event.  On the first day, October 19, Toonami will air the first two episodes at 5 pm and 5:30p, and for six weeks, a episode will kick off the block at 5 PM on Fridays. On December 7, 2001 (unless Cartoon Network has something planned for that day for obvious reasons), the final two episodes will air back to back starting at 5 PM.

More details later tonight at CNX: Toonami Revolution, but this is indeed a HUGE event for Toonami AND Cartoon Network.

The RETURN of ReBoot! Don't miss it!

Hey fellow Booters;
My position at Mainframe has been eliminated and so, as of tomorrow, I will be joining you as a fellow member of the ReBoot loving public.

I have been with the Mainframe family for 5 years - and those five years have been incredibly intense, educational, frustrating, fun-filled and fleeting. I am extremely grateful for the friends I have made and the opportunity I have had to meet so many diverse yet common-minded people, especially those of you on the newsgroup.

I believe that things happen for a reason, whether to give us the chance to learn a lesson, or to put us in proximity to people who can benefit from our presence. I feel I have experienced both while part of the grand experiment we call Mainframe.

I don't know yet where I'll land next or what I will be doing - my new adventure is now beginning, and I can only hope that it is as fascinating as this last one has been.

I can be reached at mairi.welman@telus.net if you care to stay in touch. I would genuinely enjoy hearing from you.

AW's Note: This isn't exactly any information on S4 but I thoughtit was cool anyway.
Matrix is your classic bad boy -- that's why all the girls love him. Moody, Muscle-bound and Macho. Dark hair and eyes - he spells excitement and danger to any woman. A total fantasy of course but hey - ain't that what cartoons is for???

Bob is the alternate. The thinker, the natural leader and doer but still with enough "guy" in him to be completely clueless when it comes to romance in a cute sort of way.

AndrAIa and Mouse - well, what can I say guys? They were designed by men for people who like looking at attractive women. But you'll notice all three of our leading ladies have strong will, intelligence and strength of character. Ian once commented that if you look really closely at ReBoot you'll see the women are really running everything. The HUB have enourmous respect for women and adore them to bits. I think it is refelcted in theirwriting.

Hi Backatcha!
We currently have a contract for 8 episodes and Gavin said a while back that we are negotiating to take the story to more, possibly 13, possibly 26. However, I have learned that nothing is certain until the signatures appear on the dotted line. So, that said, all I can promise at this point is two 2 hour TV movies which will then be repeated as 8 episodes later in the season. For what its worth, I think the broadcatsers will be watching the ratings for those TV movies very carefully before ordering additional episodes. We can only hope that everyone and their dogs ( and cats) watch those movies when they air!

Okay, okay, I've probably tortured you guys enough and lord knows I wouldn't want you to go through the weekend preoccupied with "whither ReBoot?" and possibly hurt yourselves or innocent bystanders.

So...........

Here's the scoop, as given in a magazine interview by Gavin recently which is due to appear on the street shortly.... I always said you'd be the first to know if anything changes.....

"Question = What was the impetus behind the TV movies? Any hints as to what will happen in them?

"Answer - We love Reboot. It's our baby. And we always, always, always wanted to do more episodes.

It's the fans who are largely responsible for ReBoot's return. Without them bugging the broadcasters constantly, Cartoon Network might not have given it a chance. Without the great run on the CN, we wouldn't be talking about more shows. So here's a big thanks to our loyal fans - they never gave up on the show, and it's paying off!

As for the movies, there were originally going to be two two-hour movies which would break up into 8 episodes for TV. The first one, 'Daemon Rising', picks up where Season III left off and deals with the problems of the infected Guardians and the Supervirus, Daemon. It also answers some of the questions the fans have always asked - What happened to the other city of Mainframe? What's the deal with Dot and Enzo's father? What's Bob's backstory? Things like that.

The second movie covers new ground and deals with the outrageous cliffhanger which comes at the end of 'Daemon Rising'! (Aren't we stinkers!)

But what happened is that the order had gone to 13 episodes, so we are effectively adding a third movie to the lineup, plus an extra 13th show which will be.... A MUSICAL!

And now - as Mike the TV might say - there's more! There is now a very real chance that the order for shows will go to 26, the interest in the show is so great!"

There you have it. Believe me, we are very excited about this and hope you are too :o)

Stay Frosty,
Mairi

Hi Gang;

Good news - it is looking more and more like the new storyline is going to be a season 4 with 13 episodes instead of two TV movies! That basically means 5 more episodes. Yay!!!

YTV and CN are both very enthused as is Irwin and our master agent for licensees (sp?) American Champion. Talks are ongoing but everyone is planning for a September broadcast start. Whilst the scriptwriting is humming along here with Ian Weir taking story direction from Ian and Gavin, production will not start until April due to qualification requirements with the Canadian government CAVCO funding program.

However, that gives us a dandy window to get production on line for a Fall premiere. Content-wise I can't say much exceptDaemon will surprise and challenge your ideas and that most of your favourite season 3 characters will make a re-appearance.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not thank you all again for your support. I don't know where ReBoot would be without you!

Stay Frosty!

Michael,

"The plan is now to produce TWO 90 minute specials. One that deals with the Daemon saga and ends in a cliff hanger then one that starts a new story line, that hopefully leads to a new series."

Hope this helps.

Hey - we still have to get a broadcaster to buy it, ya know! Don't go cardiac on me now!!

We are quite excited too, and glad we saved a shred of storyline for whatever is produced in the future. It will almost certainly focus on resolving the Daemon/supervirus storyline.

That's all I know for now. I will be away at NATPE (National Assoc of TV Production Executives) market in 'Nawlins' next week so I will check back in when I return.

In the meantime, I'm sure you can all keep each other quite busy! :o) Mairi

PS - Completely off topic but - have you all read the Harry Potter books? I couldn't put 'em down!

I have received a few emails today requesting clarification and verification of an email sent to a fan by our Creative Godfather, Ian Pearson.

Yes, it was the real Ian who emailed about a ReBoot TV movie being a distinct possibility. It is something we are looking into here at Mainframe, and we have had a few nibbles from broadcasters. (!!!!!!!)

As Ian said, "its early days yet". But the renewed interest must be partially attributable to all you fans who keep asking for more ReBoot - so ..........Thanks Guys!

Now, just because that is the case, doesn't mean the writers had to change their original stories to fit those constraints.

Prompted by a discussion at Toonzone.net, Gav, I was wondering if you have any news about the status of ReBoot?  Is anyone looking into buying more episodes and is there going to be a DVD release of s4 are my main questions.

(LOL)

In the scripts we spell it Scuzzy.  But yes, of course it comes from SCSI.
But if we wrote it that way no-one would know how to say it!

Gavster

PS - Mouse is in one of the later runs of toys, and I'm not 100% sure on her fate myself... it seems to depend who you ask!

And so am I.  But I cannot comment on this matter at this time.  I hope you can understand.  (Politics / Business matters... sigh... I wish Mairi was here...)

All I can advise is that you bombard both Mainframe's 'Official' channels and Irwin's Official channels with your comments.  I have already been forwarding your mails myself but it they should come direct to have a greater effect.
